Specifications and features

The iPhone 15 will ship with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a ceramic shield material for protection. The screen has a brightness of 2000 nits.

As expected, the dynamic island is now standard among all variants of the iPhone. There is a dual-camera module on the back with a primary 48-megapixel sensor with f/1.6 aperture, paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with f/1.6 aperture as well. Both phones use a 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera at the front.

The iPhone 15 Plus has a larger 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display but retains the same camera. Both phones also feature an A16 bionic chipset, that Apple launched with the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Apple has finally moved away from the proprietary lighting connector and switched to USB Type-C port. While Apple does not mention the official specifications for the battery, it says that the iPhone 15 is good enough for 20 hours of video playback on a charge, while the iPhone Plus is good for 26 hours. Make of that, what you will.

The real hardware changes are reserved for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, which means you will have to shell out extra or wait a year before the Pro features are standard.

Like the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, the Pro variants come in two flavors – 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Super Retina Display XDR options. Like the standard and Plus models, the panels are protected with ceramic shield covering with 2000 nits of peak brightness.

Under the hood, is a new 3nm A17 Pro chipset, that Apple says offers a 10 percent increase in performance while offering up to three times the efficiency of the previous generation.

The chassis is now made from Grade 5 Titanium with an aluminum sub-structure for increased durability and lightness. The new Action button now replaces the mute switch, and is customizable for various actions.

The triple camera module features a primary 48-megapixel sensor with a f/1.78 aperture, paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture. Where the two models differ is the third sensor in the module, the Pro has a 12-megapixel 3x telephoto lens while the Pro Max has 12-megapixel periscope camera with 5X optical zoom.
